此前《中国日报》的一篇报道中曾指出：

A total of 48 percent of Indians don't even have access to toilets. Around 65% of rural households have no sanitation facility.

48%的印度人没有厕所，约65%的农村家庭没有卫生设施。

在印度农村，无论是草丛中、树荫里，还是道路旁、墙角下，随处都可以成为“临时厕所”。甚至在首都新德里或是经济中心孟买，也能看见神情自若随地大小便的印度人……

即使有厕所，也都随性而露天。

男人们倒还好说，但这种“如厕”方式显然给印度女性造成极大危险。

“But defecating in the open is not only unhealthy it is also dangerous. While we were doing our research we heard of three incidents of molestation. Crimes against women have increased owing to their vulnerability when they are out in the fields, alone in the dark, with their 'pants down' as it were. According to the United Nations Children’s Fund, 50% of rape cases in India occur when women go to relieve themselves in the open.”

电影的主创曾就这一问题在印度进行调查，他们表示：“野外上厕所不仅危害健康而且非常危险，在我们调研的时候就曾听说三起性侵害事件。对女性来说，在月黑风高的郊外，“脱掉裤子”大小便使得她们更脆弱、更易遭受侵害。据联合国儿童基金会数据，印度50%的强奸案发生于女性野外如厕时。”

问题如此严峻，甚至已经引起印度总理穆迪的注意了。
