民警胡宇在想了很多办法后，最后找来两辆三轮车，将牦牛赶往僻静的位置，准备再进行击毙。胡宇先向牦牛身上连开3枪，但没有伤到牦牛的性命。原已发狂的的牦牛再次冲向鸿发街，向周围的群众冲去。胡宇再次向牦牛连开5枪，其中3枪击中牦牛的头部。牦牛终于倒地不再动弹。
据封面新闻报道，27日下午，四川遂宁市经开区一屠户运输牦牛进屠宰场，其中一头撞断屠宰场木栏逃走，期间还将一名路过的中年妇女撞伤。
在遂州北路与蜀秀东街交汇处，发狂的牦牛将路过的于女士撞倒在地，后经医院诊断撞击造成于女士右边锁骨骨折。“牦牛伤人了，快找警察帮忙。”邹勇和围观的群众当即打电话报警。
