8月16日，在美国马里兰州巴尔的摩，一名女子拍摄一座被拆除的雕像底座。这里原来是美国南北战争时期南方军事将领罗伯特·李的雕像。
美国弗吉尼亚州夏洛茨维尔12日发生骚乱，多个白人至上主义团体的成员以抗议移除南北战争时期南方军事将领罗伯特·李的雕像为由走上街头，和反对人士在市中心发生暴力冲突，造成多人伤亡。骚乱发生后，美国南部一些州拆除南方邦联时期领袖雕像纪念碑的呼声再起，多地政府已经或计划移除本地的邦联雕像纪念碑。
