据斯里兰卡《每日新闻》报道：斯里兰卡交通和民航部副部长阿贝辛哈表示，该国政府目前正就以公私合营模式（PPP）运营马塔拉国际机场的有关事宜与3至4家国际投资方进行沟通，中国和印度投资者都对该项目表示了兴趣。
报道称，目前该机场每月营业收入远远低于支出，偿债压力大。因此，斯里兰卡政府积极推动国际投资者参与马塔拉国际机场发展，努力改变困境，使机场功能得到有效发挥。
