他身旁的一个水手当时累到快划不动桨了。那个日本人（获救中国人Fang Lang）就主动把水手推开，拿起桨就划起来，像个英雄一般，直到我们被大船救起。

"I'm ashamed of what I said about the little blighter. I'd save the likes o' him six times over, if I got the chance", said the officer.

那名长官后来说道：“我很羞愧，自己那样说这家伙的坏话，如果我有机会，像他这样的人我愿意再救上六次。”

生还后，等来的却是流言和歧视

虽然今天我们对他们的事情知之甚少，但在当时，他们的幸存引起了西方世界的许多关注，然而这些关注却绝非善意。

《布鲁克林鹰报》（Brooklyn Daily Eagle）1912年4月19日的一篇报道中称：

“No one could tell where the Chinese came from, not how they got in the boats, but there they were.”

“没人能说清这些中国人从哪里冒出来的，也不知道他们是怎么上了救生船的，但他们却好好地坐在里面。”

而就在官方进行泰坦尼克号沉船调查时，泰坦尼克号所有者J. Bruce Ismay说：

The Chinese men were found stowed away under the seats after the lifeboat cleared the Titanic.

这些中国人是在救生船已经离开泰坦尼克号以后，才被发现躲在座位底下的。

讽刺的是，说出这番话的Ismay本人，后来由媒体报道，才是不顾“女士和小孩优先”原则，想要自己先进救生船的人，也因此沦为人们的笑柄。

这部纪录片的导演Arthur Jones怀疑Ismay所说的中国人偷藏在座位底下，可能只是这些中国人蹲在座位之间（squatting down between the seats）。

“That would make complete sense if you know anything about China or Chinese laborers,” he said, as it is common to see Chinese workers resting in a squatting position.

他说：“如果你了解中国或中国劳动者的话，就知道这完全是有可能的，”因为中国工人喜欢蹲着休息。

此外，还有许多关于中国人谣言：有人说他们为了上船，“将辫子披散下来，假扮成女人”，或是他们“从甲板跳进救生艇，踩伤了艇中的女乘客”等等……
