塘鹅对爱情忠贞，结成伴侣就终其一生。7月开始，塘鹅进入求偶季节。穆里怀海岸位于新西兰北岛西海岸，濒临塔斯曼海，以黑沙滩、粗犷原始的海岸地貌和惊涛巨浪的景观著称，是新西兰主要的塘鹅栖息地。
