《九霄缳神记》在中国神话的基础上，尝试了国产仙侠游戏中少见的暗黑设定，希望打破玩家对以往仙侠游戏风格的认知。游戏的故事发生在九霄世界北方的“玄霄”地界，这个世界的人们一直被“神”所“制约”，为了突破这层不可逆的阻隔，黑暗中一些变化正在生长……故事的主人公因卷入惊天阴谋，从而展开了与命运抗争的冒险历程。
