据马来西亚“透视大马”7日报道，马来西亚新首相马哈蒂尔将选择日本作为自己上任后的首次出访目的地，本月11日至12日，他将作为主宾出席在东京举行的“第24届亚洲未来国际会议”，并计划重新倡导自己过去的经济开发路线“东方政策”，加强与日本等国的经济关系。

“东方政策”是象征着马哈蒂尔执政期(1981-2003年)马来西亚经济高速增长的代名词。马哈蒂尔当时认为马不能止步于资源富国，为实现向发达国家的飞跃，应以韩日为榜样。因此他鼓励发展电子产品等制造业，吸引外国投资，学习韩国和日本的发展模式。
