4月16日凌晨，台湾警方陆续释放了20名涉诈骗遭马来西亚驱逐出境的台湾嫌犯。15日晚间，在马来西亚涉诈骗的20名台湾嫌犯遭驱逐出境，乘机返回台北。台湾警方称，因犯罪事证不完整且无拘票，16日凌晨2时左右，嫌犯一一请回。获释的嫌犯大多戴口罩，有人拿纸遮脸，在入境大厅集结，等候别人来接机。他们数度阻扰媒体拍摄，甚至出言恐吓。据报道，马来西亚警方与大陆警方合作，今年3月下旬在马来西亚多地查获5处电信诈欺机房，逮捕嫌犯119人，其中台湾籍52人，大陆籍65人，马来西亚籍2人。
公安部有关负责人介绍，以台湾人为骨干的电信诈骗犯罪团伙实施的诈骗案损失占全部电信诈骗案损失的50%以上，千万元以上的大案要案基本都是台湾电信诈骗集团实施的。2011年以来，两岸警方联手，先后组织多次跨国跨两岸同步抓捕行动。然而，由于台湾法律对电信诈骗犯罪量刑较轻，证据认定标准与大陆存在较大差异，导致很多犯罪嫌疑人或无法定罪、或重罪轻判，判处刑罚的不到10%。
统计显示，每年约有100多亿元人民币的电信诈骗犯罪赃款被骗子从大陆卷到台湾，但至今仅从台湾追缴回20.7万元人民币。来自台湾方面的资料表明，现台湾有近10万人以从事电信诈骗犯罪为生。
4月13日，肯尼亚将77名电信诈骗犯罪嫌疑人遣返中国大陆，其中大陆犯罪嫌疑人32名、台湾犯罪嫌疑人45名，这是我国首次从非洲大规模押回电信诈骗犯罪嫌疑人。其中45名台湾人被从肯尼亚押解至中国大陆，台湾当局发表声明抗议大陆侵害台湾人权和台湾的司法主权。
4月14日，民警提审台湾电信诈骗犯罪嫌疑人。中国声称对45名台湾疑犯有执法权，理由是他们诈骗行为当中的受害者是中国大陆人。台湾则批评肯尼亚侵犯了台湾人民的法定权利，也认为中国大陆没有遵守两岸默认互不干涉司法的共识。
