磺厂的老职工王家云和唐纯秀一家七口人全部砷中毒，3个儿墙上的“厂兴我荣，厂衰我耻”仍然醒目，但自从工厂破产、矿井被封闭以后，周围已经不复当初的繁荣，倒是居民们的安全感正逐渐回升。

2014年3月26日，湖南石门，68岁的磺厂社区居民朱春然正守着空荡荡的房子出神。他岳母一家七口人全部患癌先后死亡，其中5人证实因砷中毒引起，年龄最小的只有37岁。如今，只剩他独自一人生活。
除了他们，周围的邻居几乎都有不同程度砷中毒的情况。朱春然身上也有大大小小的砷斑，只是他不愿轻易袒露在人前。
这里就是湖南雄黄矿，一座有1500年开采历史的“亚洲最大雄黄矿”。曾经，这一度是当地最好的企业，丰富的矿产资源带给国家和职工丰厚的经济效益，却也在人们环保意识薄弱的情况下埋入了“砷中毒”的种子。
前不久，央视曝出石门河水砷超标数倍，引起了社会的广泛关注。近日，《法制晚报》记者深入湖南省石门县磺厂进行调查。
“从前山清水秀的原始森林如今变得寸草不生，只怪那时候光顾着发展生产，环保意识太差！”原雄黄矿矿长杨振凯感叹道。
据石门县政府披露，当地3000多居民中，1200余人检测出砷中毒。据当地磺厂医院统计，从1971年到2013年1月，雄黄矿患砷中毒的职工中600多人已经去世，其中400余人死于癌症。
悲剧的不断上演，给当地政府敲响了警钟。
2011年，因污染问题厂子被依法关停。目前，环境治理工程已经启动。对于职工居民搬迁、困难群众生活救助和矿区砷中毒及癌症患者纳入大病医疗救助体系等问题，当地政府正在努力实现“破题”。
