8月22日，在新加坡樟宜海军基地，美国太平洋舰队司令斯科特·斯威夫特出席新闻发布会。

美国太平洋舰队司令斯科特·斯威夫特22日表示，搜救人员当天在发生碰撞事故的美海军“约翰·麦凯恩”号导弹驱逐舰上发现了部分失踪船员的遗体。“约翰·麦凯恩”号导弹驱逐舰21日早晨在新加坡东部海域与一艘商船相撞，事故造成10名船员失踪、5人受伤。
